Bestseller 2011 - Scan&Paint

Scan&Paint is a straightforward tool not only to characterize the sound emission of an object but also to locate noise sources and make possible to reduce their contribution to the noise emission of the object. High resolutions results can be achieved in a very short measurement and processing time.

The big advantage of Scan&Paint usage is a no need of anechoic conditions, never! So the measurements and comparison of different machinery can be performed in a real operational environment, even inside environment with high background noise. It becomes possible because of Particle Velocity Principe.

Particle Velocity Principe: once the airflow reaches one of the wires, that are heated up to 200 ⁰C, it will cool it down and the air will heat a little by the transfer of energy. Then the flow will reach the second wire and cool it also down, but less because of the energy transfer with the first one. This difference of temperature between the wires is proportional to the particle velocity itself.

Another big advantage of Scan&Paint is that it is a user-friendly tool. That is no deep acoustical knowledge is needed, but at the same time it can be used for more complex measurements such as Airborne Transfer Path Analysis.

The surface is scanned with one PU (pressure-particle velocity) probe while camera is positioned toward the surface to film the scanning. After the video and audio are recorded and synchronized the data is post-processed. For each frame of the video a position of the probe is extracted. The auto-tracking function in the software enables to automatically recognize the probe by the color. At each measurement point the velocity, intensity and pressure are calculated from the relative time block of the audio data. A high resolution sound color map is produced as result. A reference channel can be added to have the phase correlation between the surface velocities.
